First woman MP in Afghanistan Fawzia Koofi is not afraid of death threats and want to lead the country. She has been attacked several times but she’s still the same brave woman.
Born to struggle
When she was born, she was left out in the sun to die because of many female kids in the house. Fortunately, she survived. She was able to convince her parents to go to school. Later she completed her Master’s degree in Business and Management.
Her father was also a Member of Parliament (MP) for many years. she wanted to be physician but due to her interest in politics & social service, she once became part of UNICEF. She did work for couple of years there for social service. She worked as Child Protection Officer.
Involvement in politics and social work
Because of her interest, she started working to help girl child get education as a right. She also started a campaign called “Back to school” . In 2005, she was elected for Afghan National Assembly. You will be surprised to know, Koofi was the 1st female 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament in the history of Afghanistan.
Women’s rights in Afghanistan
She is the face of women rights in Afghanistan. She drafted drafted the Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW) legislation. She is not only fighting for girl education but also making sure women gets equal opportunities, and good take care in country’s prisons.
