Ghalib was a famous Indian poet. Last great poet of the Mughal Era, he is one of the most famous and influential poet of the Urdu language, even till today. Many people, celebrities to ordinary, do mention his Shayari in their speeches. He is famous internationally.
Ghalib got married when he was just 13 years old. He had seven children when he reached the age of 30 but none of them could survive. It is said that this could be one of the reason we can see lot of pain and loneliness in Ghalib’s poetry.
Other than a poet
Every famous person has some different stories attached to him/her. It is said that he was very proud of his reputation as a rake as he was once imprisoned for gambling. Wikipedia mentions that in the Mughal court circles, he even acquired a reputation as a “ladies’ man”.
Poet and a tutor
“Dabir-ul-Mulk”, “Najm-ud-daula”, “Mirza Nosha” were some of the titles he received. He was a royal poet as well as tutor of Emperor. He was also appointed as royal historian of Mughal Court by the Emperor.
He was a passionate poet. Books define that he never wrote poetry to earn livelihood. He wrote poetry from heart. He knew that his poetry will be remembered by generations. He was not writing for the sake of writing.
