India is land of festivals. India is united because of festivals even after so much diversity. This is also truth that quantum of festivals are causing a concern as well for certain reasons. Like Government policies, we believe that our festivals too need reformation. Crazy!!! Reformation for festivals? Why?
Yes we know you will have these questions. Let’s have a look at those reasons which point us to the fact the we really need to reform our festivals. We may agree / disagree but we want everyone to debate this matter so we could come to a better conclusion.
1) More Import
In Indian festivals, the items which we use are mostly imported from other countries especially China. This has increased our dependency and imports causing more spending of foreign exchange.
2) Non Eco Friendliness
For some festivals, we use colors, crackers, plastic and so on which is not good for environment. This is causing pollution and congestion.
3) Health Issues
Due to use of defected items, low quality products, impact on environment, it’s causing health issues.
4) Administrative Issues
During today’s time it has been observed that due to festivals we see lot of traffic jams, crime and other crowd management issued which are a concern for administration.
5) Religious Sentiments
Talking about Religion in India is like playing with fire. At a point when we should rise above religion, we are getting into deliberate religious disturbances. Young generation is no more interested in this.
6) State Holidays
Due to jobs, people are moving from one state to another state. Our Tier ‘A’ and Tier ‘B’ towns have become mini India as you can see people from all states living in each big city. It’s difficult for State Govt to observe all holidays.
7) Pause on Work Progress
Due to many festivals, almost every week we have holidays. This is causing delay in work and slowing economy.
8) Social Divide
People who are rich can celebrate every festival with ease but for poor they are most concerned about earning their meal. It’s creating social divide as well.
