Aktarer Zaman, 23 year old beat United Airlines with his website

A 23 year old guy, Aktarer Zaman over a year ago launched a website ‘skiplagged.com’. The website was launched in order to help people find cheaper airplane tickets than the normal rates. He was not worried when previous year, United Airlines and Orbitz sued him for opening the website as it declined their number of travelers. They even termed the website as ‘unfair competition.’

Aktarer Zaman explains his journey as he says,”It’s been a fun journey; looking back it’s been a very interesting experience that most people don’t get to experience. ” United Airlines and Orbitz filed a central lawsuit, and even demanded the young guy to pay $75000 as revenue. About this Zaman confidently says, “I was not optimistic that I could take on the legal fight. I was little afraid. I wasn’t sure what to do. Some people might just give in. I challenge that sort of thing. I’m really persistent.”

Zaman helps people to find tickets at cheaper rate by using ‘hidden city’ ticketing strategy. The fact behind this is to buy the ticket that has layover at the actual destination. Zaman was funded and supported by people to pay the two corporations by ’GoFundMe’ campaign. Even initially when he started the website, he asked for $10000 to pay legal fees and he got around $81000.

In February Orbitz backed out of the case with a settlement and later in May a judge in Chicago dismissed the case, because it was not in his jurisdiction, so United Airlines did not go further legally. To this Zaman said,”We’re so good, United airlines actually sued us for it.” Since the time Aktarer Zaman has become a young social icon. He now even has people working for him. The success of the website is monitored by the fact that now he has an average of 1 million visitors on his website every month, which earlier was not more than 250000 in a month.
