History & origination
Way back in the years between 1978 and 1980, China made a policy for it’s citizens to follow limit of one child per couple. One child policy became part of family planning policy. It had many exceptions as well.
Reason behind “One Child Policy”
China had a fear of economic slowdown and drastic increase in it’s population so they brought this policy.
Experts in China believes that due to this single policy, country has been able to maintain a high economic growth and has been able to prevent somewhere close to 400 million new births.
Implementation & opposition
Though it required tough implementation including fines, abortions, emotional torture but it has been criticized by many people in the society.
Now since China has officially scrapped this policy, couple now can have two kids. This decision has been taken to resolve growing problem of ageing population and shrinking workforce.
