Stories on gangsters is not a new subject in Bollywood. Every second story on some gangster that is being made in Bollywood is inspired by some incidents of real life characters who are into underworld, for example Vaastav, Satya, Company, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai and then there were some real life stories too like Shootout at Lokhandwala and Shootout at Wadala and with the line of these films, the era of crime genre has always been on different track and it’s very rare that Bollywood chose a biopic to be made on a gangster and when it does, it make sure that no aspect has been left untouched and this time, Bollywood is coming up with another real life story. The story of Arun Gawli, the famous gangster who later went on to become an politician. The film is titled as Daddy and the role of the gangster will be essayed by Arjun Rampal who seems to be the best choice for it.

Arun Gulab Ahir (Arun Gawli) is a gangster-turned-politician in Mumbai, India who has been convicted for murder and imprisoned for life. Back into his life, Arun Gawli at first was a milkman who became a criminal and his criminal activities started at Dagdi Chawl where he used the rooms there for keeping kidnapped persons, torturing them, extorting money from them and murdering them.
Arun Gawli had step into many crimes at a time which targeted him into the eye of police and following the incidents, Police raided many a times on his premise but it wasn’t easy to catch him but finally he was caught in the hands of police and was arrested and thus got detained for long periods during trail but unfortunately he could not be convicted as in most of the cases the witness would step back due to fear and he was released by the court.
Arun Gawli’s politics career started due to the lax laws which at that time permitted criminal to fight elections and tables turned when like several other criminals who had done many heinous crimes and the fought election and likewise Arun Gawli won the election and was elected as an MLA and later Arun Gawli formed his own political party and rose as a distinctive political leader.
Arun Gawli finally got convicted for the murder of a Shiv Sena leader whereby he was found guilty under the charge and was sentences with life imprisonment.
The notorious criminal turned politician from Mumbai was often called “Daddy” to his followers and the same title has been taken up by its makers and titled the film as- Daddy.
A major portion of the film has already been shot and South actress Aishwraya Rajesh who plays his wife and Arjun Rampal seems to be as one of the finest choices for the dreaded gangsters role who will do complete justice to the character and the film.
