A lot is being said and done in the direction of restoring back the environment to its original shape. Off-late there’s been increased endorsement for planting more and more number of trees across the country. And it’s good to know that people are responding well. People are giving time and planting one, five, ten, as many trees as possible.
But there’s a man who has planted 10 million trees. Yes, that’s the exact number, and continues to go up.
His name is Daripalli Ramaiah. He made it his duty to plant a tree wherever he spots barren space. And you know, he carries seeds in his pocket wherever he goes.
Nobody has any idea how or when Ramaiah began his green-mission. Fondly as Chettla Ramaiah”, where Chettu means tree, Ramaiah is a popular figure in his native place of Khammam district now a part of the Telangana State.
Ramaiah has worked tirelessly towards giving back the Earth its green cover. He travels on his cycle, pedaling long distances planting trees and strewing seeds, deep inside optimistic that the environs will go all-green someday soon.
Ramaiah, in his pursuit has read up umpteen numbers of books on trees and the process of planting trees. In fact, he is considered to be a walking encyclopaedia on plants.
And what does he get out of doing what he does?
He gets satisfaction, peace and contentment watching thousands of saplings around him growing up into trees eventually.
