How would you expect a cab-driver to promote the message of environment-conservation? Perhaps, he’d encourage his passengers to save fuel, not litter on the roads. That’s it, yes?
Well, there’s a cab-driver in Kolkata who is endorsing environment-conversation is a manner you couldn’t even imagine! He has created a ‘green rooftop-garden’ on his cab, and also has potted plants set in a mini-cavern in the trunk of his car! Whoever has seen his ‘environmentally-styled’ cab swear that it is a sight to see!
The cab-driver’s name is Dhananjay Chakraborty. And he fondly calls his taxi as the ‘subuj rath’ or the green chariot.
It all started three years ago with Dhananjay placing a money-plant in his car. He potted the money-plant using a beautiful glass bottle that a passenger had left behind in the back seat. Dhananjay took care of the plant and nurtured it keeping in his taxi.
The bigger idea of a green garden taxi happened after a suggestion from a friend, that something similar doing rounds on the Internet. Dhananjay, fond of nature and trees, lapped it up immediately.
He spent Rs. 22,000 to build the specialized taxi. The car’s rooftop has metal-containers, the bottom of the rooftop is spread with soil, white sand and stone chips and the original green grass grows up with the help of those automations.
The overall weight of the ‘‘green rooftop-garden’ is 65kgs, his vehicle drinks up increased fuel due to the surplus weight. But that doesn’t worry Dhananjay.
Apart from the green-rooftop, his taxi houses eight potted plants in the trunk and has a green interior completely. All of this purely to encourage people to take care of trees and plants!
And did we tell you that Dhananjay drives a non-AC taxi? The plants in his car ensure that the vehicle remains cooler than other non-A/C vehicles!
Now that’s too many greens for thought, eh?
