India is a land where superstitions are held in high regard. It’s a matter of choice, really. But then, superstitions are never entirely all truth, a good number of them are just figment of a really wild imagination.
Do you know that if you consume food which is cooked by a widow, it invites bad luck on you? Greater chances are you may not have heard of such a thing earlier, but the people in Bihar have heard of this, and also choose to abide by it. And because of this adherence one widow got fired from her cooking-job in a school.
The name of the widow is Sunita Kuwar, and until recently she cooked mid-day for children at a government school in Gopalganj, Bihar.
But all of that changed in January when the people in the area started pointing fingers at Sunita, after her husband’s passing, that she cooking up meals, as a widow, for the children, is considered auspicious in their society.
Talking to the print-media, Sunita said that she has been targeted just because she is a widow. ““I have to look after my two minor children. I am fighting my battle alone and running from one office to another to get justice for the past 21 months”, she explained.
Not of the likes to get bogged down by such nuisance, Sunita sought help from the the District Manager of Gopalganj, Rahul Kumar, who assured her assistance as well as getting her back to work in the same school.
And Rahul helped her for sure, in a manner, which turned out to be an eye-opening lesson for them: Rahul asked Sunita to cook a meal for him, which he ate in full public-view. – very cleverly dispelling a superstition at the same time!
Sometimes u do symbolic things to overcome people’s beliefs. Asked the same widow cook to serve me the meal. pic.twitter.com/SoHXueqqRv
