Jayant Vishnu Narlikar was born in 1938 in Kolhapur, India. He was born to an excelled mathematician Prof. Vishnu Vasudev Narlikar. His mother was a well known Sanskrit scholar. His schooling took place in Varanasi and he was always fond of mathematics. Jayant completed his graduation from Banaras Hindu University and was the highest scorer of his batch in mathematics which clearly depicts his interest area and his enthusiasm.

In 1963, he further continued to pursue his PhD under Dr. Fred Hoyle. Soon in 1988 the IUGC which is also known as the ‘Indian University Grants Commission’ laid the foundation of Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics also termed as IUCAA in Pune. Dr. Narlikar was awarded the position of Founder-Director of IUCAA. His service cannot be doubted as he is still serving as the retired honorable Professor in the same organization.

Dr. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar has made major contribution to the world in the different areas, cosmology being one of them. He is keenly interested in knowing the development of the universe and is researching on the same. Dr. Vishnu has laid his footprints on the literary work as well. He has written various science fictions, novels and short stories which are translated in different languages be it Hindi, English or Marathi.

Dr. Jayant Narlikar is one of the precious gems of India, who has gained glory for India on an international scale. He also makes an effort to create scientific awareness amongst people who know least about it by making the best use of his published books, articles and radio channels. He is certainly a motivation for the youth of the country as he presents an example of total dedication and hard work in order to attain success and be an expertise in his field.
