In 2015, the Ekal vidyalaya in USA raised funds worth Rs 6 million dollars which came as a big motivation for the people running it. Jhunjhunwala who is the daughter of the founder of Ekal Vidyalaya alone donated 5,00,000 $.
It was started in 1988 with the vision that it can transform the rural India for the better. Ekal Vidyalaya organizes the musical concerts in USA to raise funds for village development in India. This year Ekal Vidyalaya has opened up 10 village development centers, each of which could take care of 100 villages.
The basic idea of Ekal Vidyalaya is to provide the right training and knowledge to the villagers so as to empower their lives by better earnings. The women are trained to tailor make the clothes, knitting, sewing etc. to earn their living independently. The farmers are taught the techniques of vermin composting and multiple cropping and are also told what all to grow in the local weather conditions.
The schools are made and developed for the poor kids to get proper education. Water conservation techniques are also taught to deal with water crisis. Solar energy use in households is also made available for a better living by Ekal Vidyalaya.
Bajrang Bagra, the CEO of Ekal India, revealed that by opening these developmental centres Ekal has made a direct impact on the lives of one million villagers and it has fortunately been able to expose the innovative and advanced techniques to about 10 million villagers.
Ms Jhunjhunwala is very happy to see the growth of ‘Ekal Vidyalaya’ which is aimed at bringing the best to the lives of innocent villagers. Ekal Vidyalaya aims at improving the quality of lives of people in all the villages in India by bringing them closer to education, innovation, science and development.
