Kamala Harris – She’s Put in her Papers for Senate Bid

Indians across the world are making the country proud by taking a shot at taking reins of top posts in other countries. The latest in this line is Kamala Harris. She’s the California Attorney General, she is all set to make her bid for a seat in the Senate. The veteran lady has been campaigning for over a year now.

If Harris’s efforts pay off, it would be a first of sorts. She’d become the first Indian American to ever serve in the Senate. Harris is obviously very excited by her candidature becoming official. She and her team’s efforts have paid off. She completed and filed in her paperwork at the Registrar’s office in Norfolk, last Wednesday.

The Indian American Democratic attorney general is contesting for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Barbara Boxer, who calls it a day from her post as her term ends in 2017. The issues that Harris will be focusing on include education, the economy, the environment and equality.

In an interaction with the media, she quoted, “That’s everything from what we need to do around continuing to fight for the rights for our LGBT brothers and sisters, to what we need to do around immigration reform, to what we need to do around protecting a woman’s right to choose what to do with her own body.”

Ever since Harris made her candidature public, opinion circles are in her favor, that makes her a top runner, leading in the polls.
