Om Prakash, a resident of Chakai village in Jamui district has proved that nothing is impossible if you have a desire to achieve it. Om Prakash was born in a poor family. His father was an iron cutter where as his mother sold bidis. They used to earn a meager amount of Rs 100 per day. Om used to reside in the village with his siblings, while his father used to work in Bengal.
At the age of eight, Om suffered an injury in his leg while playing football.
He and his family ignored the injury as a minor one. After a month, flesh started to rot and his family went in lot of debt. It was then that his doctor said that they will have to cut his leg. Om was then shifted to Panagarh to seek treatment. This proved to be a turning point in his life. After shifting, he joined school in class V. He suffered humiliation and no one to guide. Om’s marks declined. He kept studying despite all the odds. Later, his father said that he can’t support his studies after ten as he can’t do physical labor unlike earlier.
He was though interested to pursue higher studies. After giving board exams, he worked in a mechanic shop and earned a wage of 10 INR until his board result came out. He passed the matriculation with 59 percent. Afterwards, he continued his study by providing tuitions to students of class one to people doing MA, earning 4000 INR. Om is now a post graduate in Hindi and had also completed a one year course in German from Bardwan University.
But even after all these, Om landed in the same position as links get you job not merit. But he didn’t lose hope and later joined an NGO Seekho in Bihar which has merged with project potential. Om has now found his purpose; he has been visiting villages for the past one and a half year to build model villages.
He wants to put education in front of every family before their comforts. He wants to develop each and every house in the village a school, which not only imparts education but also empower them with skill development and music for overall development.
