Visually-impaired individuals lose out a lot in life due to the inability to see and most importantly they are unable to create memories of events that happened in their lives. Of the 15 million visually-disabled people from India, Amit was one who was visionless for 15 long years. A life-time had passed where his father passed away, sisters got married, nephews grew up and everything changed. Life would never be the same for Amit as eye operations were rare due to the acute shortage of corneas for transplant.
He was one of the fortunate ones to receive a corneal transplant and was operated upon in Mumbai. Amit had missed out many happy and sad occasions of life due to the stigma attached to this unfortunate event in his life, but the transplant gave him new energy and would help him to lead a normal life. His family had captured every important moment on the mobile camera and gifted one to him on his return. Google photos helped him to relive those bygone moments, where he could see his sisters getting married, his nephews growing up and he could also see his father to whom he was very close.
Technology has helped many people like Amit to reconnect to their memories which they had missed out on seeing while being a part of it. Google Photos associated itself with the Nirmaya and Tej Kohli Foundation in this unique venture of capturing memories for Amit and it is surely a gift he will treasure all his life.
