People who have watched Hindi movies in the decades of 1970’s and 1980’s would know about the pair “Salim-Javed”. Today we know them as Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar.  Salim is father of Bollywood actor Salman whereas Javed is father of Farhan Akhtar.

Salim and Javed wrote many movies together. They gave thousands of hit dialogues. Right from Andaz to Haathi Mere Saathi, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Zanjeer, Sholay; they contributed a lot in these film’s success because of their writing.

Life is not always easy and happy. It gives some surprises as well. Both of them separated after long association. Both of them never spoke about why they got separated and stopped writing collectively. After decades of silence, now the secret has come out when both of them shared those moments in various interviews. In one of the media interview, Salim Khan shared the actual reason of his professional break up with Javed Akhtar.

It was Javed who proposed that they split. We were at Javed’s residence, discussing and brainstorming on projects. After a full day’s work, when it was time for Salim to leave, Javed said, “I was thinking that maybe we should work separately.” Salim took a few moments to digest this and replied, “I am sure you have said this after considerable thought and nothing I say will change your mind,” and began walking towards his car. When Javed, as was his habit, joined him, Salim turned to him and said, “I am old enough to take care of myself,” and sent him back.
