Sania Mirza World champion for the first time ever

Sania Mirza is very busy these days. She has been travelling all round the world to take part in the Tennis championships and more importantly winning them quite easily. Not many know the amount of hard work, dedication and discipline she had put and the sacrifices she had made to become a player like now. It is well known that International Tennis Federation or ITF is the governing body of world tennis and was established in the year 1913. This ITF recently named the sensational pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis as Women’s Doubles world Champion. This was because of this combo’s stupendous success in the year 2015.

It must be noted that the pair of Sania and Martina won two major Grand Slams like Wimbledon and US Open in 2015 apart from winning other seven tournaments around the world. The sensational pair finished the year with awesome win-loss record of 55-7. Sania Mirza expressed her happiness and felt honoured to get the award from ITF. She also said that she and Martina had great chemistry that was responsible for winning so many titles in very short period of time. She thanked all those who had supported her in her journey.

Martina Hingis also expressed her happiness after she was named as ITF Women’s Doubles World Champion and wanted to repeat the feats in 2016 with Sania Mirza. It must be noted that 35 year old Martina Hingis was the youngest ever number one in the world at that time and won Wimbledon and US Open in 1997. Apart from that she also the Australian open thrice in 1997, 1998, 1999.

It is known that Sania Mirza was ranked 27th in the world in women’s singles in 2007. In 2005 she was named one of 50 heroes of Asia by the famous Time magazine. She was honoured with Arjuna award in 2004 and Padma Shri award in2006. The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, the highest award in sports was given to her in 2015. We Indians are proud of you Sania Mirza!! Way to go!!
