But Sanjay’s rise on the scene wasn’t one where he saw fame overnight. It took him many gigs to establish himself as a standup who knew what he was making the people laugh about.

Talking about his journey Sanjay says, “When I started standup in Bengaluru, there were hardly any people into it. At one point in time, it was just Praveen, Sundeep and me,” says Sanjay Manaktala. Sanjay came to Bengaluru on work. Soon enough, he started doing standup at a pub called ‘Cairo.’ It was there that he met Praveen Kumar and Sundeep Rao – his contemporaries in the business.

Before he became Bengaluru’s favorite funnyman, Sanjay was involved in the software industry for about eight years. The predictability and monotony of the profession finally got to him, and that led him to take to open mic shows. The experience impressed him and he was enjoying it. And just as he was about to quit his job and take up standup full time he got posted in India.
