Jim Valvano was born in New York in USA and was popular basketball player at college plus superb coach. He was spoken in high regards by many for his superb contributions.
It was great that as head coach at the famous North Carolina State University he was unstoppable and made huge impression on many. He made sure that his team won the NCAA Basketball tournament in the year 1983. This game versus Houston
Cougars was keenly fought and in the end his team won the match against all odds. The shocking news about him was he was diagnosed with bone cancer by the doctors. The determination and courage he shown was simply outstanding.
It must be noted that he made many heads turn at the ESPY Awards in 1993 with his touching speech. He was determined to make a speech before the public though he was not well because of cancer. At the speech that was heard by many he said that hope is very important and nobody must give up hope at any cost. Jim Valvano also asked the people there to enjoy life as it was highly precious.
His speech produced tears in many eyes that day when he said cancer took away his physical abilities but could not touch his mind; heart soul etc and these three things would be on forever. April 28th in the year 1993 was a sad day because on this day this superb coach Jim Valvano breathed his last but his foundation ‘’Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research’’ does its work for many cancer people. Great Jim Valvano!!
