Startup India, Skill India, Digital India and Make in India are dream projects of Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. These projects complement each other and success of these projects highly depends on the kind of education being provided to Indian youth.
We are seeing disruption in education sector where many aspiring Entrepreneurs & Startups are trying every bit possible to reach to grass root level. In this segment today we are introducing you to WeBind, a Company working in the field of education.
Please let us know about your venture and how it’s different from others?
WeBind is an ed-tech startup bringing subject specific industry experts live into the classrooms. The experts deliver webinars to multiple colleges across India all at the same, absolutely FREE OF COST. We deliver such webinars for each and every subject in the syllabus. So for e.g A Student learns about Nano-Technology in his curriculum. We at WeBind educates him about the latest development in the field, practical applications of the concepts and How to gain an entry in the field. This is done for every subject, hence giving a sneak peak to explore each subject as a career option. WeBind hence educates students beyond books & boundaries.
How did you get the idea to start this?
Ans: It was the winter of 2013, A.Samad won a competition to visit the Parliament of India. This was organised by Ex MOS – IT&Telecom, Mr Milind Deora. The opportunity to meet and interact with the leaders including Hon’ble VP, Dr Hamid Ansari was a window to a larger world, much beyond the walls of campus. Realising the potential how such interaction with the leaders of relevant industry helps students, WeBind was born. The seemingly abstract subjects of engineering with no practical connect added to the cause. The idea of connecting students from the remotest location in India to tech-experts in Bengaluru or finance-professionals in Mumbai seemed so strong that the founders decided to leave their well-paying jobs & kickstart their entrepreneurial journey.
Let us know about the people who are behind this venture?
The founding team of WeBind comprises of Abul H Rajani, Fahim Nathoo and A.Samad Murghay.
Abul is an MBA from Welingkar Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai and has prior experience in companies like Infosys, Zycus and Aditya Birla Retail. Abul heads the campus relations team.
Fahim is an Hospitality grad and currently heads the Brand Relations Team. He brings the experience of working with various brands during his journey for working with events companies & startup like Tangent-Entertainment, MarketMen & Gloob.
A.Samad is a B.E and handles the Master Relations Team. His internship with Milind Deora and experience with firms like marketmen, Gloob and Zepo.in comes in handy.
Have you got any kind of funding, if not do you have any such plans?
We have raised angel round from Mr S Kuwari, an NRI investor boasting of telecom, IT & food startups in his potfolio. Right now our focus is to build traction and develop a product acceptable to both campus & corporate. We plan to go for the next round by the year end.
How big is your team size and from which location do you operate?
We are a team of 10 operating from Mumbai. A lean team is planned by the management, keeping in mind the concept and the nature of operation.
What are your future plans?
We plan to stick to the information market instead of joining the already crowded knowledge market(read MOOCs). As of now we are concentrating more on technical subjects and in future we plan to introduce very role/job specific webinars like “How to handle the cash counter at a retail store”. Our plan is to partner with colleges and for every subject taught in the classroom & offer them a webinar. We are working on a couple of more engagements where students will learn in order to be ready for the future opportunities.
By the year end, we have some concrete strategies to penetrate even to the smallest towns and far off seven sister states.
Which is one thing which Motivates you to be in this field?
The opportunity to positively impact the lives of millions of students & help them educate them beyond books keeps us running. The dream is to lead India from the league of consumers of knowledge to producers of knowledge.
